Nice Classification for China (China trademark classification)¶
The classification China actually examines against: 45 classes, 495 sub-classes (类似群) and 32,665 goods and services items, each with its official Chinese wording and a matching English name.
Every class has its own page, grouped by sub-class rather than listed flat — because within a single class, items sitting in different sub-classes are generally not treated as similar goods, and that is what decides whether a 10-item filing actually blocks anyone else. The same data ships as CSV and JSON under CC BY 4.0: mirror it, ship it inside your own tools, cite it.
Quick answers¶
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Cost per class | USD 199 — 10 goods/services items and the CNIPA official fee included |
| Extra items in a class | USD 10 each |
| Time to registration | 7–9 months in practice; 12–15 months if every statutory stage runs to its limit |
| Protection term | 10 years, renewable indefinitely |
| Do I need a Chinese company? | No — a foreign company or individual can own a Chinese trademark |
| Opposition window | 3 months, 2 months from 1 January 2027 |
| Paris Convention priority | Claimable within 6 months of your home filing |
The one thing most applicants get wrong¶
China divides each of the 45 classes into sub-classes (类似群). Two items in the same class but different sub-classes are generally not considered similar goods — so a 10-item selection that all sits inside one sub-class protects almost nothing else in that class.
That is why every class page here is grouped by sub-class rather than listed flat, and why the class selection guide exists.
